Photography as a tool to spread a positive message, raise awareness about prevention, and show that women can be beautiful and feminine regardless of age. Simona, a 47-year-old from the Province of Latina, works in the pharmaceutical industry and has been enjoying photography for a couple of years. She has chosen to live as a free woman, embracing experiences that make her happy and venturing into areas she never imagined exploring. Simona has also faced and overcome one of those challenges that test the mind more than the body.
Now victorious, she wants to serve as an example. Her elegant and refined image, with a touch of delicate allure, is her way of promoting breast cancer prevention while challenging herself and paving new paths.
Opportunities seem to be on the horizon for her. “My journey in photography began after participating in a project by Komen Italia, an organization dedicated to prevention,” Simona explains. “I posed for October, the breast cancer prevention month, with pink as the theme color of the campaign”. Her images spread widely online, creating social visibility that opened new doors. “My expressiveness and photogenic qualities,” she adds, “became strengths that made me even more sought after.”
What role has photography played for you?
Through photography, I discovered many facets of this world and of myself, igniting a passion that led to an important journey. After publishing my first prevention-related images, I was invited to collaborate on additional projects with photographers from Lazio and beyond.
Each collaboration helped me grow, and my time on set improved me. Over time, I participated in dozens of projects, some abroad, and my image even appeared in foreign magazines.
And beyond photography?
I’m about to feature in two calendars for the upcoming year, portraying myself as a woman. Recently, I modeled for a beachwear brand, Serena Esse, and a boutique in Aprilia. I also lent my image as a model for an artificial intelligence project. In short, I never stop and have no intention of stopping!
At the heart of your journey is a strong message about the importance of prevention.
Absolutely. Prevention is the foundation of women’s health. It’s crucial to encourage women to pay attention to every aspect of their well-being. I experienced firsthand the challenges of battling a difficult illness. Even in the hardest moments, I never gave up. I kept smiling, took care of myself, stayed mindful of my diet, and remained active through exercise.
This is why I decided to step forward as a symbol of strength and hope for all women fighting similar battles. Naturally, I’m proud to be part of Komen Italia, a volunteer-based organization at the forefront of breast cancer awareness and prevention across Italy. It was even awarded the “Medal of Freedom,” the highest civilian honor in the U.S., at the White House on August 12, 2009.
You’ve embraced photography in all its forms.
I pose for everything from street photography to glamour, from fashion to lingerie. I express my femininity in ways that make me feel good. After all, a woman embodies sensuality. Femininity is innate—you either have it, or you don’t, and I feel that I do.
Sensuality can be conveyed with a pose, a look, an accessory, or a robe. Vulgarity, on the other hand, is unappealing, while beauty can be admired, respected, and celebrated. Being a model requires talent: confidence in yourself and assurance in your appeal. Insecurity, on the contrary, does not lead to sensuality.
What kind of woman are you in everyday life?
In my daily life, I’m a vibrant woman, a mom, and a professional who enjoys dressing simply—casual and sporty. Photography allows me to express what I can’t in my day-to-day life, which also makes me feel good, even when pushing the boundaries a bit.
I like wearing sneakers and swimsuits, jeans and tops, lingerie, and accessories that enhance who I am—and make me feel like a woman.
Your social media presence is thriving too.
I have a positive relationship with social media, using it to showcase myself and share positive messages. But I aim to grow further in this space and expand my collaborations. As mentioned, I’m working on two calendars and hoping to build partnerships with brands that I can represent.
My ultimate dream is to walk the runway in swimwear or lingerie and radiate all my femininity. As they say, “Good things come in small packages.” I’m 165 cm tall, but I’m not afraid to aim for greater heights! That’s why I set no limits for myself, and I’d love to venture into entertainment and television—after all, life is full of possibilities.
